Be a SmArTy: Using Tech in Word Studies to Engage Your Students & Rescue Your Weekends (& Sanity)

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

How many hours have you spent preparing and reviewing word study lessons and assessments? Sit-and-listen spelling tests do little to engage most students, and the amount of grading you’re left with is the stuff of weekend-wrecking nightmares. In this session, we’ll teach you new ways to tackle word studies, engage your students in practice and during formal assessments, and restore your free time from the assessment paperwork usually associated with word study programs like Words Their Way. We’ll show you how Google Docs and Kahoot can spice up your word sorts, how to include easily accessible audio recordings to allow for self-guided assessments, and how an exciting no-nonsense app can digitize your word assessments and quickly grade them on the fly. By the end of this session, we hope attendees have a hobby lined up, because they’re about to have enough free time to enjoy one again.
