Flexing Fandoms: How to leverage what kids care about to supercharge STEAM learning.

Fandom is a powerful motivational force that can connects kids who have deep, obsessive interests with wider communities and inspire them to produce original projects. Whether it's Minecraft, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or Pokémon GO, popular culture is filled with potent fandoms and its important that classrooms reflect these shared contemporary interests. In this session, we will look at how to create classroom structures that allow for students to express shared passions and discover new ones and review three rigorous STEAM projects that were supercharged by allowing students to flex their fandoms.
